My father has been suffering from Alzheimer's for several years. We
attempted to keep him in a family environment as long as we could.
In late 1999 it became impossible to properly care for him so we
spent a great deal of time searching for the proper care facility.
We looked at several before we found Dwelling Place. We were
impressed from the beginning with the caring manner in which the
staff interacted with the residents and the warm comfortable
environment. Other care facilities we visited felt very much like an
institution, overcrowded and very impersonal. In contrast, Dwelling
Place has a small number of residents (13) and provides a high level
of personalized care, compassion and offers an environment where
residents can safely roam in the garden or just enjoy the outdoors,
at any time.
My dad has faced many challenges with the progression of the disease
and the staff has been very knowledgeable and patient. They have
worked hand-in-hand with me and his doctors to ensure he is
comfortable and that his physical and emotional needs are met. In
2003, we moved from Nanaimo to the Lower Mainland and briefly
considered relocating him to a closer care facility. We quickly
realized that he is very comfortable and well cared for at Dwelling
Place and that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find
another facility that compares. I have peace of mind knowing that he
is well cared for and that his best interests are always first and

My heartfelt thanks for your support during our trying times, for
your loving care that provided not only comfort to my wife but let
her truly feel like being home, without missing her former home and
surroundings ... not to forget the opportunity given me to even in a
small way be an active part of your caring world.

My Sister and I could not want a more safe and caring environment
for our aging Mother over the last several years. The folks at
Dwelling Place show a respect and kindness to the residents that you
would hope to see in your own home. The level of care and nurturing
is first-rate, and the staff is always cheerful and encouraging.

We had occasion to place our Mother Winni in the care of the
Dwelling Place, Nanaimo, BC from 1995 until her death in 2005. The
care she received was excellent and beyond our expectations. We are
sure it prolonged her life – she lived until the age of 104.
The environment is most comfortable, the music program most
comforting, and the caregivers beginning with Ching and Aurel Muego
and throughout their entire staff, endeared them to us, and Mother
We would most highly recommend Dwelling Place to anyone wishing
first class care for his or her loved ones.

My Mom is now
celebrating her 5th anniversary at Dwelling Place. On her behalf and
that of her family, I would like to thank you for providing such a
warm and caring home.
Mom's happiest memories are of the summer she spent on the ocean
helping her beloved husband aboard his commercial fishing trawler.
On the water there was always the threat of peril and a lighthouse
or sheltered harbor became so welcome. It seems now, many years
later, that Dwelling Place has become the beacon of light and safe
harbor against the many storms of her old age.
Thank you for everything you do to make Dwelling Place such a

My Dad was admitted to Dwelling Place in 1999 and lived there until
his death in August 2006. In spite of my Dad’s speech difficulties
because of a previous stroke, the staff at Dwelling Place treated
him with the utmost dignity, respect and compassion. Although I have
seen other more luxurious facilities elsewhere, the care that Dad
received until his death at Dwelling Place was second to none.

We want to thank you for the wonderful birthday luncheon you hosted
for Mom on her 92nd birthday.
We so enjoyed her radiant smiles. It gives us much joy to see
how peaceful and contented Mom is at Dwelling Place. We very much
appreciate all the effort that you both and the rest of the staff
put into caring for Mom and the other residents and making Dwelling
Place a true home!
